Being a Gracious Receiver

One of the benefits of having an awesome church family is that there are so many people that jump in to help out when someone is in need. That is what the church should be – a group of Christians working together to be the light of Christ to others.

Doing things for other people is kind of my thing. It brings me joy, I truly believe that it’s one of my God-given gifts. I could do, do, do all day long. I am a doer. As a mom and a business owner, being able to do is what gives me some sense of being in control. Here’s the thing, though – I’m a terrible receiver. When other people try to help me out I feel bad. I’m guessing I’m not the only one that feels this way.

God has been convicting me in this area lately and I’m realizing that sometimes there’s a reason that we’re supposed to slow down. We’re meant to live in community, not to do everything for ourselves all the time. It also hit me that if it brings me so much joy to me to do things for other people, then isn’t it possible that it brings other people the same joy to do things for me?

It can be humbling to let people help you when you’re used to being the one doing things for others but if you’re anything like me then I want to encourage you to let other people bless you if they are trying to. As hard as it can be, just soak in the love and say thank you! It may just turn out to be exactly what you need and you’re allowing others to use their God-given gifts.
