Jack of All Trades, Master of None

Content
There seems to be an epidemic of busy-ness in our culture right now. We feel like we have to do, do, do instead of be. We end up spreading ourselves so thin that we can’t please anyone and the result is a cycle of disappointment, tiredness and frustration. We let ourselves down because we are trying to do too much but worst of all, we are not allowing ourselves to live with the purpose that we were created for. This is not what God wants for us. God did not create us to be jacks-of-all-trades, He created us to master our passions for His glory.
We usually mean well when we agree and say yes to everything that is thrown our way, but if we take a step back sometimes it becomes clear that we are actually acting out of selfish ambition. We want to please people, we want to look good, we want praise but we end up doing the opposite. This used to be me. I was involved with everything from PTA and Bible studies to Master Training and more. God convicted my heart though and I realized that I had become a jack of all trades but a master of none. I was spreading myself so thin and I was giving up time that I could have been spending with my family or on my passions just to look good to other people.
Oswald Chambers said, “There’s really only one relationship that really matters and that’s your personal relationship with your God and redeemer. Let everything else go but maintain that relationship at all costs because He and He only will fulfill your life and your purpose.” The bottom line is that if it all starts and ends with God, you’re going to be alright. When you focus on Him and His purpose for your life, not only do you begin to find joy even in the hardest times, you also become someone that other people want to be around because you’re confident in who you are.
So let’s just all agree to cut the fat out of our lives and learn to sit with peaceful hearts knowing that we are fulfilling the purpose that God created us for.
