Serving vs. Selling

Content
Have you started a business only to feel conflicted about recommending something when you get a kickback for doing so? I totally get where you are coming from, but you don’t need to feel that way. Let me explain.
I recently released a podcast all about serving vs. selling that you can listen to HERE.
Or if listening isn't your thing...keep on reading!
We own a fitness business, as you may know, and I grew up chubby. I was actually called “CC” for chubby cheeks. Not so great. In high school, my friends played basketball but I never did. I didn’t do it because it didn’t feel natural so I never even tried it. Eventually, I did get into fitness in high school and loved it. I then went on to study kinesiology in college. Loved it. Afterward, I was giving all this information away for free. I gave my services away for free and did fitness classes. I found that those who I helped for free never really did anything with it.
When we started the fitness business I really felt bad about charging people. I loved Turbo Jam and wanted to give it to everyone, but I just couldn’t do that. Pretty soon people were messaging me and wanting info and can you believe that I was scared to send them to my website? I would rather send them to GNC than to my website where I could personally still be of service to them! That’s when I realized that if I didn’t help them, they may not get any help at all. I knew this stuff worked because I had done it myself. When I was in their position I would have gladly paid for help. I knew I cared about them so why throw them to the wolves?
You need to keep three things in mind when selling that makes it more about serving.
1. First, think about how whatever it is can help them.
2. Next, you need to ask them what it is that they want to change. Don’t assume! Ask them what it is they are looking to change and then explain how your product can help them.
3. Lastly, keep this in mind. How would you feel if someone neglected to tell you about something amazing? You love your products, hopefully. If you think this stuff is amazing then maybe they will too!
If I hadn’t done this, I wouldn’t be debt free.
I wouldn’t be able to go to the store and buy what I want. My husband would be working somewhere else and not getting home until late. I had to step out and offer myself and my services. It’s okay if they say no, someone else is ready to say yes. There are tons of people looking for your kind of weird. You should always work to be yourself and truly love what you are selling. If you believe in it, talk about it. Show others how great it is. Sometimes it takes eight or ten times before someone asks or becomes interested.
Be patient.
Let them know that you see something special in them and that you think you can help.
And always be of service.
It pays off!
